The Eternally Successful
Organization:
The Art Of Corporate Wellness
McGraw-Hill (1988) |
"Wellness" is the subject here. Organizations like people,
get sick because of their lifestyle. They need to learn about Systems
Integrity which lets them live a safe, prosperous, and interesting life.
That is the purpose of this book.
The explanation is accomplished in three parts:
Part One covers a Prescription for Corporate Health. This begins
with a discussion of the basic concept of Wellness and then expands to the
ESO Grid. Stated in wellness terms the grid produces a chapter for each
desirable characteristic:
 | People do things right routinely
|
 | Growth is profitable and steady
|
 | Customer needs are anticipated
|
 | Change is planned and managed
|
 | People are proud to work there
|
Part Two covers The Masters Corporation Case. Narrated by the
Chairman the story covers the period from discovering that they are not as
good as they thought; through convincing the senior executives that
dramatic change is necessary; to a discussion of the problems, their
source, and the means of overcoming them. All of this is related in an
entertaining manner. The case provides a good insight into the thinking
and relationships of executives. The chapters are:
 | A Shocking Discovery
|
 | Probing for a Plan
|
 | Discovering Wellness
|
 | Cynthia's Committee
|
 | The Strategy
|
 | The Greenbrier Meeting
|
 | The "Biggest Problems" Meetings
|
 | The Dinner Speech
|
 | Epilogue
|
Part Three is The Quest Continues. This material covers the use
of the Systems Integrity concept to manage a firm that would franchise its
material and control it in the process. If the process is not predictable
then it cannot be sustained. ESO is an interesting, fun to read book. As
always the book closes with the Guidelines for Browsers.
